weight difference?

i found another boat in better shape than mine, for a good price, but its rated for a 90hp and mines a 115tl79r.

the first bass boat i bought was a fixer upper, the motor didnt even have the lower unit on it , but the boat came with one of the 85hp breed. the lower unit was compatible with mine. it came with every thing from the lower cowl down and every thing is identical to mine except for this model was a manual tilt.

if the lower end of my 115 and the 85 are the same. would the weight really be that different on the power head?

my question is more directed toward the boats 90hp rating.

is it a thrust issue or a weight issue?

thanks for any advice or help!

Re: weight difference?

As far as the boat goes, it's more of a thrust issue.
One other thing is what's the law in OK about overpowering boats? Some states will write you a ticket if they catch you.
Another thing is insurance, if you have it. If something happens and you have an overpowered boat, they may not cover you.

Re: weight difference?

one of the main reasons i was asking is because ive been comparing new boats--alluminum vs fiberglass.

i found a page on this site (one time and cant find it again) that listed my max hp--115, dry boat weight--830# . i dont know if the weight was maybe a typo or what but all of the boats ive looked at rated for the 115 weigh 1300-1500#s the ones for the 90 are 800-1100#s a lot closer to what mine is.

i was just trying to keep about the same performance with a nicer boat.

although i did some searching and it is illegal in ok to overpower a boat.

any advice on a light model fishing boat?

thanks for your help.

Best to stay within the law for a lot of legal and insurance reasons.
