If you can give us a number on that 17P, we can tell which design it is.
We've tested many props on about the same size rig with several different engine combos....if we can get that P/N that you gave the 6400 at 35MPH, GPS with, I'll promise you we can tell if the tach is bad.

EDIT: Is this a Teleflex tach? Faria?,....OMC?.... and how old?

Important info!! I just did a compression test and the results are: 1.- 100 2.- 100, 3.-100 and 4.-85:mad:
Is this the reason for the bad numbers I am getting out of my engine?
I have been trying to solve a bogging down problem since I got the boat six months ago, it runs very good for a while and then it boggs down and then runs fine and down again..........

Decarb is fine...it's not going to fix your original problem, nor do I think it's the bog problem.
I don't think 85lbs is going to be a big issue either...if it was 35, then yes.
At 5000RPM, that 15lbs of difference just became next to nothing.
Problem I see that we keep walking around is getting answers on the tach....doesn't matter if we know it's set on "6"...thats fine if it's an OMC or Teleflex...if it's a Faria, that's the wrong setting.
We NEED to know what tach and how old. There is very obviously a tach issue, period.

On the face it says TRACKER MARINE
On the back it does not say any brand...........
On one side it has these numbers: 54219 and 1589
I am looking on the net to find out what brand this might be......
It has a black dial on the back and it is vertical, does not
say more, I guess this is the stock setup, the boat is a 1989.

Sidetrack

So I was out yesterday and, for the first time, the lake was calm.

18' Starcraft Supersport 1980 115hp Evinrude.

15p Stiletto.

Hit 39.4 mph on the gps at around 5550 rpm.

You don't know how ticked I was that I could not break 40 :(

But I had myself, my buddy and his kid plus all the fishing gear (2 electric downriggers). Thought about kicking them out to see if I could hit 40, but decided fishing was a better idea. About 12 Kokanee to the boat so that made not breaking 40 bearable :)

hi.i have a 1989 120vro johnson on a 16ft sunray express. the prop is a 13x19 stainless. i keep the engine on the first vertical notch to get out of the hole better and a fin attached to the engine for the same reason. at full speed with no trim my boat speed is about 40miles/h at about 5000-5500 rpm. when i start to trim my rpm is around 6000rpm and the speed is about 45miles/h. the most i have seen on my speedometer is 48 miles per hour and was with half a tank of gas by myself. this set up really works for my boat /engine combination. it comes out of the hole fast, planes fast, and operates at its max rpm.

What would be the setting for a Faria tach? I am seeing one on ebay and its a New Faria..........or should I get a OMC or a Teleflex

Can you suggest a new prop? Maybe the tach is no good, I ordered a new one, its on its way. With just the engine and type of boat can you suggest a Prop size and brand?

Tracker magna 17 (deep v) and a Johnson 110hp model 1989.

Thank you.
