That's a long shaft, 1960 model you have there. 24:1 fuel to oil ratio. Plugs are Champion J4C, gapped at .030". Points are gapped at .020. They're good engines, easy to work on. Check compression on both cylinders before spending too much money on the engine.

Possible needs may be new magneto coils and a thorough carb cleaning and installation of a carburetor kit. You will certainly need a new water pump impeller and perhaps an entire water pump kit. All those parts are available, either as OEM parts or from Sierra. The Sierra parts are available here on iboats.com.

You'll also need a factory service manual. Without it, you'll cost yourself hours of unnecessary work.

Up in the FAQ section, there's a post on "Waking a Sleeping Outboard." Read it and follow the instructions in there from beginning to end.

Re: need info on rdsl-22

Oddly enough, I find myself in a similar situation with questions about a RDSL-22.

I bought this in Nebraska 2 years ago, has sat in storage since but I got it on the water yesterday and it ran well.

When I got back, there was a small amount of green-white oily liquid that drained down the exhaust onto the drive. I thought this might mean the lower end seals were bad, drained that oil but it was normal. When I went to put the drain plug back in, it now goes in about 1/2 way on and stops just short of the threaded portion. I felt around inside with a scratch awl and there seems to be something solid preventing the plug from going back in all the way.

Any thoughts? Thanks,

I'm pretty sure that you did not unscrew the drain plug, but instead unscrewed the shift pin. I do not know if you can get it back in without disassembling the lower unit

The stuff draining out of the exhaust is the perfectly normal two-cycle snot that is unburned gas/oil coming out of the exhaust.

Please don't ask a question about your engine in an existing thread. It makes it impossible to follow the step-by-step process in the original thread.

Instead, start a new thread, with the title identifying your model and the problem. You can fish that shift yoke connector back into position. Start a new thread, and I'll describe the process.
