Please help..Just bought 19' w/Yamaha 150 2-stroke carb. Before maiden voyage, started and ran on hose for 10 min. Drop in water, idled 3-4 min, reversed off trailer, put in forward just above idle 2-3 min, then accellerated slowly to plane, started making left wide circle, slowed to fall off plane a little, then re-accellerated.....then it bogged down and wouldnt refire without choke. Wont idle without feathering choke. Returned to trailer, returned to driveway, back on the hose, same problem. I checked the engine mounted fuel strainer and it had 3 tiny droplets of water in the bottom. Could this cause this? Fuel smells and feels clean (doesnt seem to be old).
Thanks, David

Rebuild the fuel pump. And if it doesn't have one, install a water seperator filter.

Does already have the filter (replaced 4/07) likely time to change again.!? I wrote off the fuel pump issue because after cleaning the filter it filled back up immediately upon cranking, plus I thought if the pump was "weak" then it would only starve at high demand. For grins I'm going to pull the tank access hatch and peer into the tank with a cigarrette lighter to see if there is much water in the bottom, then change the filter and see if I can drain it to see what comes out. ... But thanks for the recommendation, the pumps seem incredibly easy and cheap to rebuild, so I'll do that too.

I dont think it is your fuel pump, a quick and easy check is to squeese the primer bulb when the probem occurs, if the motor picks up then you have a likely pump problem; when was the last time the carbs were cleaned, if it has been awhile then i would ovehaul the carbs before touching the pump; that water in the system is not going to help either. if the carbs have been cleaned recently then that water in the system refinforces the need to have another go at the carbs.
