I am trying to move from a 3 & 3/8, 17" Ballistic to a 3 & 1/419" Turbo I bought on ebay on my 115 Merc Optimax, in an effort to reduce my Rev's. I have two challenges to my efforts to do this:
1. The thrust washer currently in use with the Ballistic is "flat" (it is not inset into the prop hub face, as the hub face is flat). The Turbo hub face is not flat, and assuming I should not use the the flat washer, I do not know which of the inset thrust washers to order.
2. When I place the prop onto the shaft with the existing thrust washer in place, the shaft sticks out a little too far for (1/4" - 1/2") the nut to securely hold it in place. As I don't think the corrrect thrust washer will be any thicker, how do I correct this?
number 2 might be related to the fact that the overall length of the Turbo prop hub is less than the Ballistic. Also, I am not 100% sure the new Turbo is the correct prop for my Mercury Optimax. The hub has "Y 13 1/4" on it, making me think it is for a Yamaha, but I am told that a Yamaha prop and a Mercury prop are interchangeable.
Any help with this greatly appreciated.
