I have an 8.8 seahorse. Whats the best way to mount it for repair? I was thinking about mounting it on a 2x4 sawhorse. It this enough to hold the motor up? I can picture it falling over.

Any ideas

Re: Sawhorse for engine mount

I've never had problems the dozens of times I've mounted my 9.8 hp on a 2x4 sawhorse. It's plenty strong. That said, I bought a wheeled engine carrier from Cabelas a couple of years ago and like it much, much better. If I had it to do over, I might build one as shown on the above links, modified a little to better accomodate the actual tub I use to run it in. On the other hand, the one I bought is very light weight and easy to store, move and lift when not in use.

I used a cheap plastic sawhorse/workbench/clamp for mine. Clamped down an artificial transom and braces of scrap lumber. Worked well once I reinforced the plastic legs by screwing sections of 2x4 to the legs. It is also now a much better sawhorse.

Hit the thrift store and pick up a walker...you know, like the old folks use. The ones with wheels are aces...mount a transom board across the front and Bob's your uncle.

For my 20 HP, I used a folding three-step aluminum stepstool. The outboard mounted right on the back side, and with the stepstool open, I had three small platforms for laying tools, bolts, manual, etc. I set a two-by-four held on with screws at the top of the stepstool, and the motor bolts right to it.
