Well, today after working in the heat all day, I decided to go out on the boat after work.

I was too excited I guess, because I forgot the plug... When I got back from parking the truck, I noticed water in the back - OH CRAP - I rush back, get the trailer and spend 15 minutes draining the water out of the back of the boat...

Drive to a ramp nearby to let some of the water out along the way... drop in - WITH THE PLUG IN THIS TIME...

Do some skiing, then just cruising - After about 10 minutes, I ask my wife who was driving, what RPM we were at... She stated 4000, (usually about 4600-4800)... I could tell we were going slower then usual for WOT. She stopped and I had her give in some gas in neutral - It rose to normal redline area and when she came down, it died - Could get it started again. It turned over fine, but never quite caught... Finally, the battery died.

STUCK ON THE LAKE AT 7:30. Finally, someone came by with some cables and tried to give us a jump - After 5 minutes and still no starting, I pulled the cables off and as soon as I moved the cables on the terminals, the battery started smoking... WTH???!?

They towed us back to a nearby ramp and we had a friend get our truck and meet us...

So now I'm wonderin' whats wrong with the boat... Bad battery? Starter get too wet? Anyway, just thought I'd share my woes... thankfully its the end of the season (or in a month or so) and we pick up the new boat this coming weekend anyway. ;)

No telling what's wrong with it if you use this technique very often to check it out. Not a good idea with any engine to wind it up with no load on it. Hope you don't plan to treat your new one that way!

Give me a break - That is really dumb logic. Redline with no load for 2 seconds doesn't hurt anything. Besides, what makes you think it happens all the time?

I am assuming you have a sterndrive ???
Did the water in the boat cause any damage that would cause your issues ????

If you're looking for advice as to what's wrong with the boat, maybe it's best to:

1) Not post in SHT.
2) Not call the people trying to help you "dumb."
