I have a 1978 Orrion Eagle 17T and the only non working part is the one in this pic. I can manually set it forward or reverse. But there are some cut wires. Where do the wires go? Where can I find a replacement?

Thanks!!!

Re: What part is this?

Looks like a shift interrupter switch. Is the switch still functional? If so, I'd just repair the wiring.

It should just go between an engine ground, and the negative side of the coil.

Is that part of your engine or the control? Is that an OMC part? It almost looks like a neutral safety switch as part of your control box... if it is on the engine, then I would guess something to do with the ESA or shift switch if it is OMC... but I know very little about OMC stuff. Time to tell us more what you are working on. "1978 Orrion Eagle 17T" doesn't tell us much about the engine / outdrive / etc.

Re: What part is this?

I have pics of the engine and setup. It is an OMC 140 engine and a stinger outdrive. But can get serial#'s for everything this evening. Here is a link to the pics:

Thanks.

Definetly omc and I am pretty sure its the shift interupt switch. It cuts ignition when you shift into forward or reverse to take the load of the drive for a split second.

I have been told, by a very authoritative figure, that OMCs didn't have interrupt switches...

Re: What part is this?

Thats the shift converter. The shift cable from the control box moves the converter and another cable shifts the out drive. Called the lower cable.

2 micro switch's, one is the over stroke and the other shift interrupter.

When you shift these 2 switch's activates a e.s.a Electronic shift assist module.

The module for a split second stumbles the engine so the out drive gears can smoothly engage and disengage.

The shape of the clutch dog is the reason for the e.s.a.

Now whats the problem?

Re: What part is this?

Thx. for the reply. The wires are cut from one of the switches and there is no cable going to the shift control. I'm not sure what to but to make it run so I don't have to put it in forward or reverse by hand.

Thanks.

Your friend is wrong....sorry. Its the later version of the OMC stringer. Its a full mechanical shift, it requires a "interrupt" switch pictured located on the top of the shift converter housing.

Re: What part is this?

Do you have a throttle control mounted at the helm?

You need to run a cable from the control to the shift converter.

Do you have a manual? Factory the best seloc second best.

You need the one up to 1986.

It is a bit complicated. Ebay all the time has the control and the cables.

Do you have a cable going to the carb?

You have a cable going to the out drive called the lower cable?

I would worry about the esa latter.

Yes. I have the throttle control.

Not sure what this cable is...

I did find a selco.:(

I do have a cable going to the carb but it doesn't move very much

I have a cable from the rear of the stern drive near the seal going to the shift mechanism. There are 2 micro switches but those wires have been cut.

I would worry about the esa latter.
