Due to stiff steeering, I had to remove the steering cable in my '90 Johnson 110 motor, however the cable is seized and is not coming out of the "sleeve" on the motor where the cable slips thru.
I had to use a grinder on the large nut that threads to this sleeve which "buggered" up the threads. Now I need to replace that sleeve. I realize that it actually the pivot point for the motor to be able to raise/lower it. what's that sleeve called and where would I go to buy a replacement?

it is called a tilt tube, what is your model # i'm not finding a 1990 110, they made 100's and 115's that year. model # we can find you the correct part. it is much easier to change, with the motor off the boat.

I can't find a serial number plate but here are pics of the motor. I recently bought this 1990 Lowe CC boat from the original owner who said that it's the
original motor. I would think the critical dimensions on this tube would be the outside diameter (O.D.) and the distance between the outter flanges of the mounting bracket?

Looks like it's a 1988 (assuming the cowl is original) J110TLCC ??

Thanks for the i.d.

I did a google search for tilt tube but nothing came up. Being it's the weekend, the local Marine shops are not open to ask for availability. Till Monday, can anyone direct me to where can I purchase a tilt tube for it?

Unlikely any dealer will stock that part, but any BRP dealer can order it. It's a very low useage item. You might also want to get an OEM shop manual, since those tilt tubes can be a bugger to replace even when you know how.

Once you figure out what you have, you can view the parts list and order parts at http://shop.evinrude.com/

You have to remove the motor from the boat before removing the tilt tube because it will fall apart once that tube is out.

The battle has only begun. It will get worse. Much worse. I hate that job.

Once I used the grinder to cut the cable then removed the nut, I started tapping the tube out and at that point something told me to assess what would happen when the tube was removed. That's when the light went on and the binders were applied .

I have a cherry picker that will assist in the lifting so hopefully it won't be as difficult in replacing the tube :p.

Thanks for the link but it doesn't list the tilt tube.

BTW I measured the existing tube which is 12" over all length. The threaded ends length measure 3/8" long, at the steering link end x 1" at the cable nut end. The diameter of the shaft is 1" o.d.

Does anyone have a replacement tilt tube part number that I'll need??

Re: '90 110hp Steering?

Well I called Iboats and spoke to Stephine (sp) who told me that they don't carry this tilt tube . I did find another source but the number 32086 is for a thrust washer not for bushing. Would it be 0321035 bushing swivel bracket??

Re: UPDATE: '90 110hp Steering?

Last Monday I ended up ordering the tilt tube parts locally because of the delayed delivery date thru the internet. Well all the parts arrived today including the new rotoary steering cable which I ordered via ebay also last Monday.
It was a little tricky "snaking" the new steering cable in this center console boat but managed to complete the removal and installation including tilt tube in a little over 2 hours. Thanks to all for your replies. Especial thanks to tashasdaddy for the link to the OEM parts list.

It's trolling for Stripers time!! :p:D:D

Re: UPDATE: '90 110hp Steering?

If you're going to all the trouble to replace the tilt tube, get a stainless one. Not that much more $$ and well worth it. And you'll avoid future stuck steering cables.
