Often here in Puerto RIco I do release much of my catch, but once in a while I do keep some average size individuals for some good ol' grilling ;)!

most of the time, i release 'em. sometimes, though...hey, a guys gotta eat.

the idea of letting them rot and mailing them to an elected dirtball sounds good, though.

mailing pooh is getting kinda old:D

Re: What do you do with your catch?

The only fish I eat out of the Chesapeake Bay are Rockfish in spring.
Crabs are a severe weakness though!

But the "rockfish" out of Chesapeake Bay are wonderfull eating stripped bass, when you say rockfish on the west coast - a completely different fish.

and the blue channel crab from CB are great - I heard that they are almost an endanger species there nowdays. I was on CB 1950 - 1978.

but agree..

Then there is cow cod in a few honey holes we found off Catalina Island..Great eating!

Where's the button for, "I wish. I never catch a damn thing." I'd fall into that category. Unfortunately, fish is my entire family's favorite thing to eat, so I spend a lot of time at the supermarket.

I keep all keepers up to legal number of catch per day, freeze, eat and give some away to co-workers. Makes for better co-workers.

I fish with a harpoon, I only spear what I am going to keep, especially lobsters.

mmmm... tacos! you don't have to feel bad about keeping all the rockfish you catch either, because once they come up a couple hundred feet they look like cartoon fish that swallow a stick of dynamite (my freezer is definitely stocked). Nothing beets a ling or a legal halibut though.... definitely not throwing one of those back!

Re: What do you do with your catch?

We do alot with our catch, first of all we don't usually catch much...LOL. But when we do, we keep what we want to eat. And if we catch keepers, hey, they're coming home too as long as it's withing regulated limits per person. If we catch more than we can eat ourselves it only takes a couple of phone calls and it's fish and beer at our place on the river! Never had a fish go to waste. Yesterday it was freshly caught Wahoo!

Re: What do you do with your catch?

We keep everything and anything. We do eat it all though. We love fish and that is a big part of our diet, especially during the summer. That's when we go fishing the most. Some of the smaller ones we use for bait. Nothing ever gets wasted.

The first catch always becomes seviche right on the boat. Then it's fried fish, sarandeado, fish soup, fish fillets, fish tacos, and more seviche.

We had fish tacos today. :)

We only keep 1 or 2 of our catch if it?s big enough to give us decent sized filets. I suck at cleaning and rarely get a volunteer to clean the boat if I clean the fish.

Re: What do you do with your catch?

I keep what I catch in most cases and freeze what we do not plan on eating at the next meal. I grew up with a grandfather that would catch a cooler fuul of Redbreast, Brim, Perch, catfish, bass, etc. Keep everything that was legal and within his limits. He would give some away if he could, but if not, clean it all and freeze. Never had to ask around for fish when it was time for a big Fish Fry...
