When I twist my tiller to full throttle, I can still move the butterfly lever another 1/4" by hand. Is the metal plate that rotates and opens the butterfly adjustable, so that I can get full throttle openings??? I hooked a string to it and pulled it open while running and man that last 1/4" of butterfly travel really makes a difference...that little pecker really screams..Any thoughts on how to get the last little bit of butterfly opening? (no the string wont work long term). thanks ron:D

Sounds like your "link and sync" is out of adjustment. There should be an eccentric adjustment or a simple set screw (mine has the latter) on the cam follower linkage. That's the roller that works the throttle. You need to adjust where it is at closed throttle so it'll be where it's supposed to be at open throttle. There may be a better way to explain it, but take a look at it and I think you'll see what I mean.

I can't say with 100% certainty this is correct but look at #23 on this diagram.

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury_parts/1459/140.cfm

I believe the flathead screw on there is your adjustment.

Another thing possibly... The little bent metal linkage (#26 on the diagram) between the throttle arm and the cam follower (roller thing) can connect to my throttle arm in two different places. There's 2 holes on the throttle arm. In order to get mine to open right I have to use the inner hole. On mine, this linkage is pretty sloppy. If I ever think of something to replace that little piece of bent metal I will. Yours may only have one hole. If so you can disregard this.
