Have a trim motor for an '81 50hp evinrude and I have been told not to bench test it directly with the battery or it will burn it up. Is this true? Is there a way to safely test it before I hook everything up?

Re: tilt/trim test

I have tested many,in the repair feild and never burned up any,nor do I see any reason why it would burn up.If you have a 2 wire system its easy, blue(think sky)wire to positive extends it,reverse ,green(grass)down.3 wire blk to gnd,blu/green as above

Re: tilt/trim test

thanks mike. Knew the up/down/ground but when hooked up they go through solenoids and I didn't know if they stepped down current or not. If wiring directly won't hurt them then why do they need to go through solenoids. I should be able to wire them directly to two switches.
