They always seem to amaze me. Last week finding out about grandchild #12 left for some other untold news. While my daughter was at our house making a call to her doctor, my wife overheard her conversation. Nothing was out of the ordinary until she gave a different last name. My wife told her that it was wrong to use the last name of your boyfriend.

And my daughter responded:

I didn't,,,,we got married July 7th!

I just wonder how long she was going to keep that from us? Not really happy about it, but getting mad is not going to make the relationship any better. Guess that is the only way that they will learn.....I do wish them the best,,,,,,hopefully a $200 Lowes gift card is not too cheesy of a wedding present for a new redneck couple :D...........SS

Goodness Mayfloat, always a suprise around your house. With all that you've gone through with your grown kids you're an inspiration to me. I know that not everyone can have it as tough as you've had it. I sure hope that I have it better when mine get there. 3 girls of my own here, whew...... what a ride it might turn out to be.

The only thing that you can do is guide them threw life the best way you know how. What they do with it is up to them. I have two girls 21 and 17. They all know more than daddy.

Ya gotta love um!

I hope they have and will continue to have good credit. I cant seem to forget the lyrics of that tv add for some free credit report that says. " I married my dream girl.I married my dream girl. But she didnt tell me her credit was bad. Instead of a pleasant home in the suburbs ,we now live in the basement of her MOM and DAD. We cant get get a loan on a respectable home now because she DEFAULTED on an old credit card. If I knew it then I would now be a bachelor with a home and a yard". :D

Re: Adult Children

At least she dumped the Large and In Charge boyfriend that I had conflicts with. That was a great day when she came back to us. She found out that it is rough not to have mom and pop around. Actually she got word that he was bragging on how she was working and he didn't have to do anything. Ashame it took 3 years!....Lesson learned.

The new Son-in-law is a good guy. Works in a local small factory and runs sound for a local band.

I'm put in mind of this Chuck Berry tune:

It was a teenage wedding, and the old folks wished them well.
You could see that Pierre did truly love the mademoiselle.
And now the young monsieur and madame have rung the chapel bell.
"C'est la vie," say the old folks, "It goes to show you never can tell."

Re: Adult Children

And threads like this make we want to never have kids...lol.

Oh, I have "kids", alright. They are now 52, 51, 50 and 42, and I have 8 grandbuddies ranging from 13 to 31. Oh, and a couple of great grandbuddies, 3 and 7.

Can't say they didn't have their troubles at times, but they have always. . .always been the greatest joys of my life.

Yea, with all the ups & downs they have I still say that my success in life will be rated by how many stories my kids tell that start with "My dad and I..."

$200 from Lowes is lot cheaper than a wedding.

Re: Adult Children

So, um... what's the problem exactly?

(I have some experience with this... didn't tell parents until the day before the wedding)

I'm sure they have their reasons. For us, we got married on the cheap... total wedding, from rings, to cake, to dress, to flowers, to catering, cost less than $260... and I don't think either of us would have it any other way. I infer from your first post that she's the pregnant one... and... if you make that mistake (the out of wedlock pregnant thing), the best way to "fix" it is to get married asap.
