I'm new to the industry and bought a 1985 Hydra Sports Boat VL-485 and I'm looking for a owners manual on the boat for a little more insight on how to operate and get to know the functions of the boat. Anyone have a manual for sale or where to look for one? Any help would be appreciated.

Greg: I had the exact same question about a boat I recently purchased.. It was the question that brought me to the forum.

Basically, you will not find anything on the boat itself. The company I was looking for went out of business in 1993.. Well before any of the manuals could make it to the internet. There is 0 information out there about the boat company.

What you should be looking for, instead of a manual for the boat, is any information you can find about the engine and the drive. Basically, every boat is nothing more than a fiberglass shell. Doesn't matter the make/model of the boat-they accomplish the same thing, and work in the same way. The major differences, beyond cosmetics, lay in the engine and the drive.

If you pull the serial number off the engine and drive, you should be able to find information and manuals for those items. These are FAR more valuable than anything you can find on the boat.

Good luck in your search!

I have a 87 150 VS hydra .. manuals even when new didn t exsist .. talked with a guy from another forum that worked at the Nashville, TN plant where they were made.. he said they never did use manuals, other than a generic us coast guard geneal saftey guide, that was made availible to manufactures and the general public free .. manuals cost too much for them to make so they said.

The only info that I can see that would have been of use would have been a wiring and plumbing diagram other than that the other stuff is pretty self explanitory .. bigle switch turns on bilge, light switch turns on lights etc

The only publication they made was a mag called Rooster Tails bassically a advertising magazine, that had fishing articles, tax right off for advertising.

C & O marine near nashville has a bunch of old stock parts and accessories for the Hydra Sports.. but no manuals and such they are on the net just google C and O marine
