Engine Removal Question - Just for Assurance

1987 Mercruiser 5.7L 260 Alpha One. I read through the manual and realize all I need to take off before popping the engine up and out. Just need to be reassured that the exhaust Y pipe does not have to removed. The Merc Manual only states to take off the exhaust bellows, says nothing about the Y pipe?
Thanks Roman

The pipe is bolted on at the bottom of the Y... You can't take it off until the engine is out of the boat... You do need to remove the drive though... or buy a new coupler ready to put on...

Just loosen the two clamps on each riser, unbolt the riser, and remove it. The Y-Pipe stays in.

It can SOMETIMES be removed without the engine in place, but generally speaking it doesn't remove until AFTER the engine comes out.

If your flappers are on top of the Y-Pipe, they're easy to check. If they're at the bottom of the pipe, pull the pipes off now, and check them now.
