Hello everyone, I have a 2003 Honda 115hp and since it was new I've noticed that at max throttle I seem to run about 3300 rpm. My question is is that the max for this motor? Top speed is about 38 mph, no hesitaion great fuel mileage. Is there something I can do for more rpm or just be happy with what I have?

Re: Honda 115 RPM question

What pitch prop are you running? What type/size/weight boat is it powering? It's probable that the prop is not optimal for your set-up.

Re: Honda 115 RPM question

The original prop that came with the motor is a three prop but I don't know the pitch. I did put a 4 blade prop on for better torque. The boat is a 20 ft Hewes craft that weighs 2600lb.It just seems that my max throttle travel alows me to take it to 3300rpm.

Re: Honda 115 RPM question

I believe you should be getting about 2000 rpm more than you are now at WOT. I'm certainly no expert on props but I'm wondering what speed & rpm you were turning with the 3 blade prop. By the way, the pitch should be stamped on the prop. Check it out & let us know.

Re: Honda 115 RPM question

should it higher or lower?
I'm reading these forum and I'm finding out that I'm lacking it from somewhere. Does anyone knoe what the max RPM is for that motor? ( I know it depends on the prop)

Re: Honda 115 RPM question

That spec is 5000 to 6000 at wide open and leaves alot of wiggle room for propping and load variations.I don't know the hull that you are dealing with but with the numbers you throw at me I am relativly certain you have a miset tach.Is this unit doing what you wanted and expected it to do?
