Hello everyone,
I recently bought my first boat, and the engine runs beautifully. Unfortunately it was running in a trash can with the prop taken off when I saw it, and I couldn't actually see it in gear. Now I got it home and it will not leave neutral; and when you rev the engine there is a loud rattling sound from the bottom of the boat. I believe it is most likely a problem with the dog clutch, as the linkage seems to be turning fine, and I still can't get it into gear manually with the linkage disconnected.
Is there any chance I can find a new dog clutch? Are they somewhat universal or will I need the specific McCulloch one? Are there any other potential problems that it could be? I know the shear pin is in correctly, I already checked. Do you think a local marina/repair shop would be able to get the part for me?
Thanks for your help; I'm new to boating and just hoping that my first attempt at owning a boat isn't a complete failure...
