Hello,

My dad has a 2001 Proline with a 125 mercury outboard. Every so often this loud squealing alarm comes on. It has done it intermittently. The last outing it started and never stopped. When we got home after an hour of pulling the boat out it would still do it when the key was turned to on without turning the engine over. I checked the temperature guage and it was fine. The motor was filled with oil. Anybody have any ideas what the alarm is sensing? I appreciate any help.

Thanks

Sal

Re: Alarm in center console

Start by disconnecting the sender wires if that stops it you have a bad sender, if it don't disconnect the wire that rounds to the horn at the engine. If that stops the horn it's the module (some newer engines don't have modules you will have to check yours) if that don't stop the horn you have a wire shorted.

Which are the sender wires? The alarm is coming from the console area not the engine. Please help.

Thanks

I appreciate it

The signal that sounds the horn come from the engine there are 2 senders one on the head for temp. with a tan wire going to the module and one on the bottom of the oil tank for low oil with 2 blue going to the module, the module when sends it's signal to the horn on a purple wire.

Is this one continious beeeeeeeep

or a continuing rapid beep beep beep?

Solid tone is the temp alarm, tan wires

rapid toons are the oil alarm, blue wires, Unplug one or both wires to the switch under the stbd side of the oil tank. If this stops the beeping, order a new tank, the magnet came loose from the float.

Re: Alarm in center console

I disconnected the oil tank wires and the lon non stop beep went away. I assume it is the switch in the tank but Mercury sells the tank and switch seperately. So, does that mean all I need to replace is the switch and use my current oil tank? Please advise.

Thanks

Re: Alarm in center console

As you have been told in your other thread for exactly the same problem , it's not the switch, it's the float with the magnet glued on the bottom (not any more). This is a VERY common fault with these oil tanks... Merc makes a lot of money out of selling them...

Sorry. I just want to order the correct part and do the job once. Do I replace the tank and use the same switch or both need replaced at the same time?
