hi again guys, always something , well now it is my anti siphon fuel pick up hose.i i unscrew it o take a look at the pick up hose that goes in the tank, when it came up there was no mesh filter at the end, from the look of it it seems something was attatch at the end but it might fell of in the tank. i took of the fuel sender took out the fuel float and peek into the tank, behold i saw a piece of black hose about 6 or 7 inches long with a mesh screen attach at one end,.
i try to fish it out but i couldn't . now the piece that still on the siphon is short, whats the best solution to fix this problem?

should i just attatch another piece of hose to this piece ,or i should just get a whole new piece that will go all the way to the bottom of the tank,

thanks for what you guys have to offer on this.

I suggest you pick up a long, flexible grab-it tool; they're inexpensive. Since you can see the hose, you should be able to grab it and remove it. The question then becomes if you can reattach it to the fuel pick-up tube. That I can't tell from here. If you can't re-attach it, you will need to get a new one. That shouldn't be a problem. Some people may tell you to just ignore it and get a new one. That will leave a hose swimming in your tank which is bound to, sooner or later, jam your fuel gauge float. So, I recommend you remove it. By the way, it's not really an anti-siphon hose; it's a hose and screen which allow fuel pick-up from low in the tank. Otherwise, as soon as you used up some fuel, the pick-up would stop picking up and your engine will stop due to lack of fuel. Good luck, and let us know if you're successful in retreaving it. Hy

It's heavier than the fuel... It will sit on the bottom of the tank all the time... Unlikely to foul the gauge sender... I would just forget about it and put a new pick up in, with no screen on it... That's what a filter is for...

My pick up is just a length of 1/2" ali tube cut at 45 degrees at the bottom. Welded at the top of the tank... job done...

On a point here, there is an antisiphon valve on the tank, and it's not the hose,,, plus the gas will flow fine without one, as evidenced on every car, & truck on the road, once your fuel pump starts pulling a vacuum,,, BUT, on a boat it is put there so that in case of an accident, and your boat flips, it will stop gas from siphoning out, possibly causing, or contrbuting to a fire, or explosion.

spend the 5 bucks to pick up the grab tool and then replace the hose... and don't worry aobut it. not going to be a big deal at all. the only reason i would make sure to get it out is so that a few years down the road the rubber doesn't degrade enough to come apart in lettle chunks and clog your tank screen. likely - probably not, but you'll sleep better at night... :)

Think happy thoughts :D

Re: gas tank anti siphon hose fell off help

lots of great ideas thanks guys, i am having a problem finding that tool, is found in hardwares or auto parts? here is what plan to do i am going to straight ou one of my size 8 gammy fishing hook, tied it real good to a piece of fishing that has no guides on it, in one word a fish hook spear, just stick it so the barb on the hook just pierce it ,then lift it up and grab it , if not it is going to stay down there .

so i can just sweat in the right size copper tube cut it real close to the bottom kinda cut it offset, COPER TUBE AS REFRIDGIRATION TUBE?? thanks guys

Re: gas tank anti siphon hose fell off help

The antisphon valve is usually aluminum, and screws onto the tank, it can be straight or angled, and it doesn't look like a valve. It may look like a tank fitting, an elbow or a threaded hose barb, but it has a spring loaded check ball inside that usually gets gummed up. Below it is usually an aluminum pickup tube, with a screen in it somewhere, it maybe at the bottom, or at the top, and the screen maybe removable, or not. You're better off putting a screen at the top for servicing later. I don't know what all you got there, but I never saw a rubber hose pickup in a fuel tank?

Mine has a rubber hose fuel pick-up with a spring in the interior to keep it from collapsing...
