I am trying to fix the pull starter on a friends little motor, There is no ID plate
He says it is a 4 hp, 2 cyl year unknown
The number on the freeze plug is G3658825
It has a weird rope start on the side of the motor that swings a gear up to engage the flywheel when the rope is pulled.

Need the model number to ID it. Plate normally on port side of transom bracket.

However is it like This

They were like this throughout most of the 1970s

yes that is exactly how it is
we had a broken rope, then it would not rewind, we took it apart and spent hours rewinding the spring, now it still will not rewind must be I did something wrong. Must be some tricks to it.
Any help will be great

I am having trouble with putting the starter mechanism back together. Finally got the spring re wound but there is a half round steel clip that fits over the end of the spring. it does not look right when I look at it, how can I tell if it is wound up the right way? Are there any real clear pictures available

Does anyone have copies of the manual pages that I can have to reassemble and install this recoil starter?
