It all started back in Janaury. Then it got worse...bought from a bloke on Ebay about 2hrs from home.
This was a well used rough as guts work horse that had seen better days but with some help and determination it turned out ok.
I need to resize a bunch of pics so that I can show you (of your interested) how this change took place and the challenges it presented.

Re: Nautiglass Sportsman V150 resto

I replaced one stringer and re-set the others as best I could. Being a cuddy cabin I couldn't (or wouldn't) remove the entire deck so I replaced what had gone bad and cleaned up the rest.
Once the new ply was down I sealed it in by mixing Q-CELL to the resin which gave it body - just like toothpasted so it wouldn't run away - when the catalyst set the resin it went rock hard. I ground down the seams then used another resin product - FLO-COAT - to finish the top. Just like new again. I'm still loading more pics but file sile has me restricted.
Cheers.

Re: Nautiglass Sportsman V150 resto

does anyone know how to get the images to near full screen as seen on other threads?
In this set of pics - it pays to have a brother-in-law that has a panel shop. I preped and rubbed and he painted. It took me an entire Saturday to rub the guide coat down but is was worth it in the end. Great finish. I used a paint called Nauti-cal which is distributed here in Australia by International. Not sure if you guys in the USA can get it.

The end result. The dark stripe is painted on. It was done in acrylic over top of the 2pac white. The acrylic was an automotive grade paint that we added a double dose of metalic fleck and pearl to give it some life. Can't complain. It was worth a try.

I modified the bow rail by shortening the overall length. This was to also assist with getting in and out of the boat at the jetty. Painted the rail in a heavy zinc content 2pac primer then 2pac black. Also repaired and modified the rocket launchers to swing either forward or backward (I chose backward) to allow for low clearence and weather cover. Added some mounting plates for the radios and spot lights.

Re: Nautiglass Sportsman V150 resto

Here's a story worth telling. The aluminum trim that is fixed to the transom I made myself. The original material was a dirty old piece of rubber that had hardened and made a real mess of the rear view. I went for the aluminum as a lot of the new craft have this set up. Guess what. The quotes I got to have that made fell into the few hundred bucks so I set about making it myself. I found the material from a aluminum supply store that sold all sorts of aluminium trim. The piece I needed exactly resembled that of step tread which is used on staircases to provide a safe tread. Finding it was br far the easiest part. The heardest bit was bending this material slowly and carefully so it wouldn't split or crack. I made a jig in the exact shape of the transom. I used clamps and rubber mallets and about 4 hours and 8 beers to get it to the right shape. The nice bit about all that were the beers beleive me...

Hey great job on the sportsman, just picked one up myself on the 20/8/2011 , I then came back and joined so I could see your pics and you did an awesome job, hope I can do half as good, I want to do a midnight purple with metal flake where you used black, or something along those lines, cheers and good fishing, PS here is a pic of mine, looks great while it is wet, will look better when its been restored. ;)

Re: Nautiglass Sportsman V150 resto

hey guys
I got the v15 about 3 months ago.
V150_sportsman,yours looks about 100 times better than mine lol
and rso117 yours is just great :)
Mind you, i only paid about 1k for it, and it needs a hell of a lot of work.
I havn't decided if i will restore it or just use it till i get something newer, bigger and better.
However, after looking at a few threads on this and other forums, and reading a few comments about how good the hulls are, im starting to think about doing it up.
So far i know i need a new floor and transom then a paint job. and a job to pay for it all...
Yeah i know... the compas has to go, it looks like another head on the boat.. Well ok, if i list everything that needs doing, you will be reading this for the next hr or so..
