The top layer of wood in the back had a broken bolt that I have replaced but the small crack that you see below didn't change. Do i need to do something about it?

Should I remove these "fins" that someone put on the bottom of the sponsons, one is slightly bent.

Does the transom look ok?

looks are one thing....but whats under the lipstic is what counts......that looks like a big crack in the transom.......but you have to check to see if it is structurly ok.....

that means search core sample........and do some on the transom.....right around the crack...it certainly looks rotted from here......and bounce up and down on the motor....see if theres any flex in the transom

i also dont like the crack running legnthwise down the hull......it looks like a delamination

the hull does not look that it is in too good of shape.

there is a lot of crazing in the gellcoat....im guessing that hull has been really pounded on....only a really thouough examination will do.....that boat could very well be unsafe.

dont wanna give you doom and gloom.......everything is fixable on that boat.....it just depends on if you have the time

Are you talking about the picture of the out side of the transom? That is where they repainted it before, its a paint run. I think it still had wax on it when they put the darker blue paint on. There is no flex if i pull up or down the motor. The paint from the rub rail down is like that, all runs. Ive had it in the water about 10 times this summer and it never has taken on water besides a little that splashes in. When I replaced the bolt in the back I tried to pry up on that piece of wood and it wouldn't move. I have also taped on the hull and transom with a hammer to see if it sounded rotted. The local boat mechanic said the transom was good but also that he wouldn't adjust the carb because the motor was too big for the boat. There are no soft spots that i can find. My biggest concern is where that piece of wood looks like its seperating (thats the one i tried to pry up).

the crack in the top pic needs to be fixed. i still want to see pics with the motor down. it still looks like it is a long shaft on a short transom.

You will need those turn fins on the sponsons. They do let you turn the boat once they are down in the water. I use to race outboard hydros.

And I agree you need a short shaft engine for that boat and I would really look long and hard at the condition of the fiberglass and that transom.

It is being short shafted, I get that. Im jus waiting for winter. Im pretty sure the transom is ok. what should i do about that spot where the crack is? the bottom shows no signs of a problem? Should i just sell it as is, i have 250.00 into the whole setup? Yeah its a peice O sh*t .. I get that, but it is fun!!
Im prety sure the hull is strong and in fair shape. Iv'e had this thing air borne and it didn't sink... what would be a good price? It is loads of fun, but is it going to flip is my major concern?

there is something about a boat, if you like it, it is worth fixing. just seal that crack with a couple of coats of epoxy, if you get water in the boat it will leak, thru there into the substructure. no point is giving up. i never said it was a piece of anything. if i were 35 years younger, i would be right where you are, wanting that thing to fly.

This is the inside of the front end. Every thing looks good up there.

The rest of the top looks the same inside. I think all the fiber glass is in pretty good shape.

What should i use to fill these nicks and dings?

Re: Some pictures of the boat i want to repaint and the parts that may need repair.

i dont think the glass is in that good of shape bud.... i keep seeing cracks....
on the other thread i saw a really big nasty in the front....that if water gets to it at speed.......

dont get me wrong....i love the boat.......and the only p.o.s around here is my b-liner that im using right now ! :D.....(after i get it restored....it will be perfect again!)

it depends on if you want to fix it or just sell it.......$250 is a really cheap price for a toy......another 200 bucks and it can be first class.....(the hull)

a project that size would only take a day or two.....and when done..... tough as nails.....

id re do the whole thing.....transom....re glass the inner hull.....sand the exterior and paint.

it just depends on the time and money you want to put into it......

man i really like that toy.....

for example......you see in pic #2 in the paint....there is a gazillion spider web looking scars?........that is called crazing.......it can be caused by a number of things.....but my guess is that they are stress fractures.......that many.....and in that area........would leave me to believe that those fractures go thru the gell coat and into the fiberglass hull......and with that many......catistrophic failure might not be that far away.

but one quick layer of 1708 glass in the inner hull.....and forget about em !....just sand and repaint the exterior of the hull.....after its sanded id fix thoes areas you were asking about with gellcoat....(make sure the hull is sanded down to the orig gell coat first.....then repair....sand smooth and repaint with emmeron or awl grip

I got this boat from a young guy, maybe 22. He told me that him and friends painted it the darker blue and put the fins on the sponsons. They used cheap paint and didn't do some thing right. It schatches easy and the bottom of the boat is worse. It looks like the orignal paint had cracks in it, its the light blue you see in the pictures. OOP's the big crack is really a scratch in there dark blue paint.
