I need help figuring out what to buy

Hi there everybody,

I am not experienced in buying a boat. I want to buy a boat for myself and 5 other adults to be able to water ski and fish out of. Water Skiing being number one and fishing being number 2. I want to spend about $20,000.00 and the most important thing is to buy a boat that has the best record of not needing repairs. I will be putting it in the water on Lake Travis close to Lakeway. Does anybody have any advice for me on a type of boat that has an excellent reputation for not having repair problems?

This is kind of like asking who makes the best truck you are going to get a lot of diffrent answers when in realaity it is really all in what you like the best thing you can do is shop around find one you like then do research don't buy the first one you like keep looking and make sure it is what you want

All boats need repair and maintenance. It is the nature of the beast. You will need to make many decisions. Do you want a bowrider type boat; twin console; center console; ski boat with a pylon; jet drive; stern drive; outboard? With your budget, you are probably looking at a used boat and then the care that the previous owner gave the boat is a major factor. You will need to spend some time deciding what you want/need before anyone can give you meaningful advice. You may do well to rent a few boats to get a feel for what you like and don't like as part of your purchase process.

hi.....welcome to i boats......

use search......look for "buying a boat"...and a post by td....also read the i boats.com review....its in there.

there are a few things to watch for.....

an i/o that says omc........the "L" drive....a force outboard.....

sea rays, fourwinns, and chapperalls are all good boats that hold a good resale value.......

but any boat needs to be taken care of......if you are buying used.....look for any boat that is garage kept.......

before you buy the boat....hire a marine sureveyor to look over the boat....or at least weigh it to make sure it is mot 50 pounds heavyer than the plate says.....
