I spent a long time considering whether to put this in the non-repair thread, but in the end, I figured the Johnny crowd would appreciate it the most. Sorry it's not a repair question or story.

I bought a great little vintage sport boat, 14' fiberglass, Span America brand, very curvy and sensual looking. It came with a 1959 Super Seahorse 35, an rds21b, and it runs grrreat! I'm stunned. And I paid $900 for the whole kit and kaboodle. It's my first foray into boating, but I _think_ I got a swinging deal.

At the end of this boating season, [southwest usa colorado river lakes], I'll be tearing into her for tuneup stuff, and I'm sure I'll be hitting you all up for info if I can't get any love from searching first. I'm a huge "search before post" kind of guy.

You'll see a lot of older johnson/rudes which run like clocks, thats why I went with a johnson too.

Sounds like someone gave you a fair shake, a lot of people get turned off when their initial foray is ruined by some jerk who unloads their junk on a newcomer.

Congrats,

Hokkay fine! ;) I've only had this thing for a month or so, and been boating up a storm with it...fresh and salt water. Sadly, I've only taken a couple of crappy camera-phone pics.

Notice the bow painted in scuba color? That was by the previous owner. He was a diver. We are not, but the paint job looks cool, so we're going with it.

And the motor, not a particularly detailed shot, but boy does she run!

Cool. I still can't see your pictures, I'll try on a different computer.

BUT - I grew up tooling around in and learning how to ski behind a Span America in the midwest. I'd bet it was a 16 foot - runabout style with an Evinrude of the same era - probably a 1965 90 HP or so give or take a couple of years. All I remember is that it looked enormous to me (the engine).

It looked pretty much like this: http://www.fiberglassics.com/forms/forum818/ShowProfile.asp?mode=public&uname=nissila

Lookign forward to seeing the pix.

Well, damn! Still pictures no worky! Grrr...

Try this link.

I followed your link to a Span America. I wish there were more info and pics available online. Mine is much smaller, and more curvy and sensual, but the family resemblance is definitely there. Mine is only 13.5 feet from the transom to the tip of the bow, which is not blunt, like the pics in your link. No windshield on mine. It's more elemental and rat-rod'ish [car analogy]. I like to step up onto the front deck and fish off of it, and the windscreen would be in the way. Hopefully, my link above works.

I was thinking the same thing! Curvy and sensual and no pics?! Yer killin' me! :) I gotta do my running around in an old white driftboat. Looks like a bathtub with a motor on it! Of course I do get to run whitewater in it so there is that. But it sure is ugly.

Cheers................Todd
