I've been trying to remove my flywheel and it won't budge. I've tried heating it a little and all I did was break the 5/16-24 bolts on the puller. I let it soak with pressure all weekend still nothing. I bought this motor not running so there's no telling what was done to it. Any suggestions ? Thanks Tom

did you use hardware store bolts, you need grade 8 harden bolts. then thighten smack center bolt with hammer, then tighten again. it will finally pop off.

Use search, same engine, same problem. 2/3 weeks ago. How do you know they are grade 8 bolts?

I'm going to try it one more time if it dosen't work then I'll take a die grinder and cut it in half.

Is it alright to tap the holes that are on the outer edge of the flywheel? If so I'll make a puller that will fit these and put it on top of the inner puller and crank on both at the same time.

I did search, could not find post, Put the puller back on the flywheel, tighten puller, spray blaster on flywheel at crankshaft contact, let set overnight, tighten puller half turn, A sharpe strike top of puller center bolt with 2lb hammer. Support flywheel when doing this. You don`t want to drive the crank thru the block. DONOT GET IN A HURRY, TAKE YOUR TIME.

no you can not tap the outside hole, it will warp or break the flywheel, do not hit the flywheel with a hammer either. it is a pressed compression fitting between the flywheel and the crankshaft. besure to afterwards to retorque it to spec, or you will be replacing the woodruff key.

Found the thread. Do a search of user laudo, he had 25 hp engine, use the same method he used.
