I have a Chris Craft Scorpion 169 equipped with the 3.0L 140Hp I/O
alpha one outdrive. Primarily I will use this boat in the sheltered bays and fresh water lakes of Ma., The occasional tube ride for the boys, with an average crew of two adults, mostly just cruising, but would like to have the ability to pull a skia/tuba ( thats the Boston accent!)
any thoughts????

Re: help me select a prop

I don't mind talking to someone with a Bahstan accent. I am married to a Mainiac so I can't object to much.;) To give you a good recomendation for a prop we all will need a little information:
Current prop diameter and pitch.
Wide Open Throttle (WOT) max rpm you reach now.
Current top speed, preferably from a gps reading.
Boat manufacturers recommended max engine speed range.
With the brief description you have given us of how you use it someone will be able to give you a good starting point if not excellent performance. Happy boating.

Re: help me select a prop

I've actually not used the boat yet, recent purchase, the prop blades look like something Moe dragged across Curly's head! I can't use it like this so, I'm going to replace it before my maiden launch. Is there info on the current prop I can look for, like a part # ? some measurement I can take? The mfgr's reccomendation is something I could look up in my owner's manual as far as rpm goes, but otherwise, maybe a good starting point?

Re: help me select a prop

You may be able to get the prop repaired. There should be numbers on the barrel or under the nut. size _ _ X _ _ or a part number.
The absolute best way is to run it with the repaired prop and get the specs to us. prop size, max rpm and speed also the motors rpm range possibly on a label on the motor. It appears some Scorpions are over 2,000 lbs others at 1400.What year/weight is yours? Speaking very generally the 17/18ft 3.0 I/Os run 19 or 21 pitch with little reserve for skiing. 15 or 17 for sking
depending on the boat and typical load. But the best is to test with your present repaired prop, then decide on a prop.

Re: help me select a prop

This is a 1988 17', manufacturer suggests max rpm @WOT 4200-4600. I could not find any info on weight. I will remove current damaged prop and repair as suggested, and also check for part #.
thanks
