Re: 150 4stoke

Where is it lacking...?
IMO, the 4strokes have flatter torque curves, with more grunt down low, and pull (ie needs) more rpms on top end. While the 2strokes usually are much stronger in the "meat" of the power band (3500-5000rpms)

If you really miss the 2-stroke "hit" , I'd look for a direct injected 2-stroke....

Re: 150 4stoke

A properly set up 150 2 stroke will have more bottom end grunt. Keep in mind your 150 4 stroke is only a 4 cylinder motor with a 2:1 gear ratio.

What is it that is lacking?

Re: 150 4stoke

:First off, welcome to the iboats.com boating forum!!:):)
There are website's that discuss outboard mods for speed although please keep in mind, for the most part you are adding additional strain to your motor and lower end and more than likely will reduce the life of your motor.

Re: 150 4stoke

Depending on what hull you have, getting 50 out of an in-line 4 cylinder motr with that gear ratio may not be bad. One thing we can do is run the numbers to see what kind of slip % you're getting now.

Post your prop pitch, top rpm and GPS speed with an average load (or the typical load). We'll run the numbers and see where we're at.

There are some companies looking at mods for the ECM / ECU / EMM etc units but keep in mind you'll still have the same bore & sroke and gear ratio. Also keep in mind it's not like putting a chip in a car or bike.

Re: 150 4stoke

Can you also provide us with more information on boat, props, mounting height, rpms, speed, altitude. (did I forget something..?)
Also, did you have a 2-stoke on the same boat previously..?

Re: 150 4stoke

17'10 CAMPION alante 535 Been running 5800 6000 rpm getting 49 51 various props mostly 19 pitch enertia. Had a similair older boat with a 2 stoke 150 faststike on gps I got 58 mph. Boat was new with motor, pretty sure Id have a divorce if I got a another motor. I do not have the boat with me now so thats all the info I have at the moment. I am second guessing my boat buying decison due to the fact there was $5000 differece same model inboard with similar performance. Thanks guys. Is there any tweaking you can do on these 4 stokes, i heard the 200 model is similar to the 150 with differnt computer?

Re: 150 4stoke

The F150 is a inline 4, 2.7Litres, the F200 a V6 3.6(?) litre.

Re: 150 4stoke

At 6000 rpm and 51 mph with a 19" prop you're at around 8% slip. That's pretty darn good. Almost unbelievable. From here I'd say about the only thing to do would be experiment with height and possibly set back to see if you could spin a 21" prop. If you could and using the same slip scenario you'd be in the 54-55 mph range.

BTW - the F200 is a 3.3 liter V6. Totally different motor.

Re: 150 4stoke

I'm no hull expert but the Alante 535 doesn't strike me as a particularly fast boat at 1800 lbs dry,16 degree deadrise 150 hp.And 150 is only about 10hp more than a typical low end I/O that usually run in the low 40s with 130 to 140 hp. It seems to me that 50 out of that setup is pretty good.Maybe I'm missing something. What was your other boat/motor combo?

Re: 150 4stoke

Maybe it is just me but I am unsatified with the motor as wellas other owners that have the simliar motor. As far as the inboard model I can gain about 3-4 mph on it. Anyone here have information on these mods or tired these mods have a website link for them I would apperciate it thank you. And will try to adjust the motor heigt also. It may not be a fast hull but this boat should do 55 with proper setup. Thanks again

Re: 150 4stoke

Just for fun I looked up the Etec 150HO on 5 Ranger models and a Stratos.
all about 1500 lbs dry.I'm guessing the HO is 20% more hp than a 150.These boats are obviously go fast designs. And the motor is specifically as a go fast motor.best speed was 62 on the Stratos, the Rangers ran from 57 to 61 mph.
I believe some had builtin setback others a jack plate. I would say the odds of you seeing 55 with your hull and any stock 150 are slim.

Thanks for the info and your opinion. Original question again is anyone have info on mods/power chip for a 4 stoke motor? A website maybe? Has anyone used one?
