chrysler 45 hp problems

Ok, I'm trying this for the first time. I have just purchased my first boat a couple of weeks ago. It's a 1970 seabrite 15 footer with a chrysler 45 hp outboard. Had it out the first weekend for trial run and ran great. Problem now is at fot it'll take off just fine and then sputters like not getting fuel. Have checked the vent cap on the tank and even ran it with the cap off. I beleive the fuel pump is on the right side of the engine with a glass ball on the bottom. That has fuel in it. The Model number on engine is 45621 with a serial number of 4528, and I don't know what year the outboard is. Plate said it was made in hartland, WI. I've checked out the other forums and it seems i should start with a fuel pump rebuild kit. I pulled the fuel supply line to the carb. and it seems like it's getting enough fuel. Pulled carb. and cleaned complete with carb spray. Will try that out first and let you know what happens. Like I said I'm new to this and am open to any other suggestions.
Any help would be very appreciative.
thanks
Mike

The pump diaphragm is probably either hardened or torn. All it needs is a new gasket and diaphragm. If you can't find the parts, go over to The Chrysler Crew.

Motor is from 1966. Google sierra 18-7806. The parts you need to rebuild the pump is in that kit and can be ordered from NAPA or here at iboats. If you order it here you may as well order a carb kit for it as well it is 18-7037.
Shipping costs will be the same for one or both kits.

Ok, Carb kit came in today, but of course fuel pump kit was ordered wrong, not by me but from Napa. Have to wait till next week. Also changed all the fuel lines, put in a inline filter. Ran better at idle. and put on a different carb. Ran the same way at full throttle. So now I know for sure(I hope) that it is the fuel pump. Thanks again all.

Re: chrysler 45 hp problems

Well, rebuilt the fuel pump, and it still did the same thing. I have brought the boat to a local marine place here in sheboygan to fix it. Looked at rebuilding the carb and I don't think I can get that envolved in it. Will let you guys know what the problem was when I find out. Got word motor has good spark and very good compression, he believes it's the jet in the carb.
Thanks again.

Re: chrysler 45 hp problems

Well, the total problem was with the carb. major out of adjustment and the main jet was partially clogged. Everything else was in great shape. Thanks for all the help out there.
