Re: Round or Glass toons???

Hi

I own a 1985 fiberglass Skipper Craft it is 24', I restored it over the winter last year painting the entire boat even the pontoons, I trailer my boat being only 4 miles from the ramp.
As far as maintenance I just give it a good washing after every trip and it still looks like new after it's first season in the Chesapeake Bay salt water. As far as handling I am very impressed with it so far I have been caught out in the bay in two to three foot waves with it and it handled it very well much to my surprise. "My First pontoon" It seems to me that the fiberglass pontoons ride a little deeper in the water than the aluminum pontoons do from my comparison of passing them on the water, therefor giving a better ride in rougher water in my opinion. I have never been on a Aluminum pontoon boat so I can not say on how they ride in rougher water but they look like they plane better than my fiberglass pontoon boat dose .

You would think aluminum would be alot lighter and certainly more resilient, don't know what there is to hit down there but I would rather hit it with an aluminum tube.

The weight could be good though, weight low would keep the boat from getting tossed around so much in wake but you also have to push it through the water and I would think it would be easier to find a welder than a glass man.

I assume you are wanting to retube the boat?

Other than the dent in the pic they don't look too bad, be prepared, i have seen some invoices for tubes, YIKES!

Don't know where you boat, but Lake of the Ozarks is noted for being extremely rough at times and in various places. Here, aluminum is king, and yes, they ride very good. They outnumber the 'glass tubes by a large amount.
