My outboard which i recently purchased is not giving full power, it starts perfect, idles excellant, and shifts into gear smoothly. However when put into gear it only gives about half power when opened out on the handle. The engine has very little use actually about 4 years of not being used before i bought it. I Know very little about suzuki, but one mechanic said for me to completely remove the oil injection system and my problems would be solved????
I have burned about 3 tanks of fuel with motor like this and it seems that oil consumption is right compared to gas burned so i can`t see why disconnecting it would make a difference!!!!
I would appreciate any thoughts on the matter!!!

The man is talking a load of twaddle. The oiling systems on Suzuki are the best there is. As with all systems they can fail but this is a rarity for Suzuki. The carbs undoutedly need cleaning and this will probably solve the problem. However a compression test is the first order of the day. This will tell you if the motor is ok and worth working on. The carbs will need removal and dismantling and soaking in Gunk products Carb and parts cleaner. In order to do all of this a Manual is essential.

thanks for your response sorry for the delay in returning message. I have tried a compession test it`s perfect, Carbs have been completely dismantled and completely cleaned, with no difference to engine. I still have same problem, i`m beening told that it`s most likely coil trouble. when motor is running on barrell or back of boat you can rev the motor up that you would think she`s perfect but when you put motor in gear and the strain comes on the motor, this is when she doesn`t have it, is this possible???

Speaking generically::
Have you looked at the plugs? If one appears wet or shiny black or much cleaner than the others suspect that cylinder.You could also carefully disconnect one plug wire at a time and ground see how it runs.Be careful as if carelessly done may damage the system.

I will go with steelespike on this. I have a DT25 here in the shop and the plugs were one of the problems.

Could It Be The Coil, When In Neutral You Can Rev The Motor Apart With Power, But When You Put It In Gear And Attempt To Throttle It It Won`t Put Out, Is It Possible That A Weak Coil Could Cause A Lack Of Power When Strained????

I agree the Suzuki has the best oil injection. Do not do away with this. Sounds like a coil to me. I had the same issue on a Tohatsu 40. Runs great unloaded. In gear no performance. Good luck !!

Re: 1997 dt25 suzuki 25hp 3 cylinder

I'm having the exact same issue with my "94" 25 hp! I did go through the carbs with no change. Runs great hooked to the hose but out on the lake it only reaches 2/3 speed and rpms. Changed plugs, cleaned carbs, adjusted idle screws, drained fuel and replaced with new, changed fuel filter, checked fuel pump, and have spent hours on computer trying to find the answer. Hope you got yours fixed so maybe you can enlighten me. Would appreciate any input, Thanks.

Did you pull each plug wire in turn with the motor running. If you pull a plug wire and there is no change to the motor running that cylinder is not working. With this info we can progress to the next step. Don't leave the wire disconnected for too long, reconnect almost immediately. Also check that the inside metal contact inside the boot is clean. This can be done on each wire with the motor off of course. A dirty or corroded contact can cause this kind of problem.
All this sounds typical of one cylinder not working.
