Question on Rudder

My Shamrock 260 open was in the slip hanging from straps when Ike came on shore just west of Galveston. Lucky for me the boat received little damage. One of the things I noticed was the Rudder shaft had a bend where it comes out of the hull. The swim platform, rudder and exhaust/swim platform brackets took a beating where they rubbed on the dock during the storm. The rudder shaft (one piece with the rudder) is bent around 5 or 10 degrees to the left. Didn't appear to be any damage to the metal housing where the shaft went into the hull. The boat motored nicely back to the ramp (1 1/2 miles). After the boat was trailered and I was in line with the CL of the keel, from the stern looking forward to the prop, the rudder is now about 1" out of line with the prop. I would appreciate opinions on anything that I might exspect if I do not replace the rudder or reccomendations to replace.
Thanks for reading

Re: Question on Rudder

Either replace or straiten the rudder. Inspect the rudder shaft log where it enters the hull for cracks and the entire steering system. If there is engough force to bend the rudder its possible it cracked something or broke seome steering compoents.

Re: Question on Rudder

Suggest that it all come apart. You will likely have a water leak where the shaft goes through the log, perhaps even cracking around its mounting. Hope your problems are small.

Re: Question on Rudder

Thanks for the feedback on the rudder-My second challenge is to find a place to order the rudder and or parts for the possible repair. I can find shamrock boat sales contacts but the Shamrock parts are a little more dificult to find. I also need the cover for the starboard exhaust (also serves as a gusset or brace for the swim platform) This is a hollow angular piece that screws to the stern and the swim platform that allows the exhaust to exit the boat. (trying to describe the piece because I do not know how to post a picture). If anyone can help with contacts, it would be very helpful
Thanks

What is the rudder made of? if its bronze you can heat it and bend it back (removed of course!).
