I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2003 Key West 1720 Pro, well outfitted w/Minn Kota trolling motor, poling platform, etc. My question is what do you all think of Key West? JD Power and Associates doesn't think very much of them, but my friend and his father who have been around boats far longer than I have think its a great deal. They also said Triumph boats are pieces of ****, even though JD power ranks them 5th. I trust my friend over JD Power since they're fed money to say things, so I guess I'm just looking for some more opinions on Key West?

Re: Key West Boats?

Key west boats are great in my opinion. We have a 176CC 06 model that has given us nothing but great hours on the water. Our neighboors have a 1720 Pro and I THINK it's around the 00-'04 years. They love it also. They have done everything from Ski'd to fishing to just pleasure boating. We once both went out together and that boat could do every bit my 176CC could do, and keep up! Dunno if that's the info you wanted though..

If you need any information I can get it for you.

Thanks. I just wanted some feedback. I've heard that they are good boats, and them seem like good boats to me. I've also heard that Triumphs are plastic pieces of ****, even though they are rated very highly on JD Power n associates. I'll be using the 1720 Pro almost exclusively for fishing.

Re: Key West Boats?

After coming back to boating this past year, I bought an older used Renken that got me by untill I could decide whether to stay with boating or pursue other interests. I got a ton of good information on these forums, helped me with a few issues on the Renken and decided I was back to stay.
That began my search for a newer more reliable boat. Due to my past great experiences with Yamaha motors, that was one of my requirements. Also, I read every post I could find on Key West and found one negative comment.
That had to do with a new boat that the owner wasn't happy with the dealers service, I wrote that one off and began looking.
I found my current boatjust two months ago on craigslist. It was priced way under retail by a private owner, had low hours and was a different layout, being a dual console. However it opens up to a very wide stern (8') and is very dry and fishable.
I have added another battery and switch. I am very pleased with the overall build and quality. No, it is not a Mako or a Grady White, but I plan to keep it and resale value is not that important to me at this time. These are popular boats with a wide dealer network and ample parts avaiability.
I don't think you could go wrong. On the link I am going to give, you will see they are given pretty good reviews by the owners. Good luck! :)

I like the KeyWest lots too. In fact I would be driving one right now had not someone beat me to a great used dual console like triumphrick's I found about 1 day too late. There was a deposit on it and dangit if the guy didn't show up to pay the balance and drive it away!

The other make at the top of my list was Scout and so I'm very happy to have found a great low hour one two years ago in North Carolina.

Hello roosterjoe,

I have a 2003 19' Key West center console. We use it for fishing and crabbing in the Susquehanna, and Bush River and Chesapeake Bay. It has served us well without problems.

had an '02 1720 that i recently traded for a slightly larger bay boat. was very happy with it for the price. i beat it up pretty badly but it was always reliable. only got about 4k for it in trade but it was pretty abused. good luck. it is a narrow boat so it is not the most stable platform for fishing multiple people. i once had a three hundred pound lineman on board and almost went swimming multiple times.
