When I trim the motor up or down it sometimes makes the low oil warning light come on and the motor dies. Performed troubleshooting on rectifier/regulator and has proper voltage when cranking or running. Also did battery load test and cranking battery checked out O.K. Where should I look next to isolate the problem? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Reservoir in battery area and reservoir on side of motor show full. Boat has three trim switches and it does not matter which trim switch is used, the same problem occurs. Problem occurs every time motor is started and trim switch is used. After motor dies and when it is restarted the problem with stalling is less frequent. Some of the time I can trim the motor up and down several times before the problem reappears. This is very confusing. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

ok, this sounds too easy, but i promise you have a bad wire, terminal end, connection or even a bad battery....it is for sure one of these....z is '01 and if in saltwater i would bet wire is green somewhere...check grounds on engine also and do you have a batt. switch? If in saltwater pull batt. switch off bulkhead and check connections there....this is for certain a voltage issue and almost always not Yamaha part problem at all. Seen it a lot.

I agree, you have a bad connection or cable someplace.
whats happening is when the trim is activted the current draw for the trim motor(an electrical dead short) is more then your connections can handle so voltage availble to run the injector driver and fuel pump and possibly the ECU goes to low.
remember current flows Voltage is simply a matter of electrical pressure.
to test your battery place the red meter lead on the + terminal and the black on the -,operate the trim and observe the voltage. it should stay above 11 V at all times.
now leave the red lead on the + terminal, not the connector but the actual terminal, now place the black lead on the next connection point(ie batteryswitch terminal or junction block) hit the trim again, voltage reading should be less than .5V. continue moving the black lead to each connection point until you hit the starter, maximum allowable voltage drop from the + batt terminal to the starter terminal is .7V.
test the ground side the same way.
red lead on the - batt terminal nd black lead on the engine block, operate the trim max voltage is .5 on the ground path.
another point on the early run HPDI motors is to carefully check the main power tap on the starter lug some had the insulating sleeve pinched between the lug and the starter terminal and would not maintain a good connection.

Can't tell you how much I appreciate the help and from total strangers none the less. Don't see much magnanimity these days. I also thought it might be a loose wire, and I looked the block and power head over very closely. There is a grounding strap on passenger side and 2 straps on driver side of outboard which are good and tight and show no corrosion. Motor has never touched salt water and boat is kept tarped and under a shelter. Will follow you two gentlemen's instructions and go over all connections and do the diagnostics suggested. Can you tell me where there are other ground connections to look for?

With much appreciation,
