loud exhaust on 3.0L

I just purchased my first boat, a 1987 Mark Twain, 19ft, with a 3.0L mercruiser and Alpha One. The exhaust sounds just like my Brothers 28ft Mariah with a 454cid. It is LOUD, just wondering if this is normal or is there someplace that at exhaust leak can occur making it sound like a Hotrod.

Thank You

A 3.0L that sounds like a BB  That'll be the day :p :p
Might be loud, but there is just no way to confuse those two sounds ;)

Anyway, on to your problem. Have you checked the exhaust bellows to make sure it's there and hooked up?
One more thing, since this is your first boat, marine engines with outdrives DO NOT have mufflers. So don't expect them to be as quiet as your car.

The last boat i had with a 3.0 you could barely hear it run.
Don is correct as usual..;)

I bet the exhaust bellows are shot or not even there.

OK, it sounds like a mini 454. But seriously I will check the exhaust bellows again. I assume it is one of the two rubber ribbed hoses going between the transom and the lower unit. Please try not to laugh at me, Im just learning. Thanks

Not laughing at ya NE, just a little friendly ribbing.
The bellow you are looking for is the bottom one. Tilt the drive up, it's the first one you SHOULD see. If it's missing, well, there's your problem.

Of course, he didn't say anything about water coming into the boat.....but if that is also the case.......there could be a problem with the exhaust tube.
