[[16' Fiberglass boat for free. The boat has a new floor, and has a solid transom
and a good hull. The boat will seat 6- people, and just needs a motor.
The trailer is a nice trailer, sturdy, good tires,. The trailer I will sell for $125.00. I have to many in the driveway. I have 4 right now.]]

I'm really undecided about this boat and wanted to see if anyone has any experience with a similar old fiberglass boat or simply has advice. The guy says that it floats and just needs a motor. I can't see the transom in the photo so that is a concern but is seems like it has potential.

Thanks in advance for your comments...

I say why not...the boat is free and teh motor is almost nothing..my buddy was goign to sell me a 22' 77' columbian with a blown motor for $1500 and I was going to pay it...but he recently just gave it to me for free.....taking motor off soon and will rebuild it in my basement!

question is...do you want a nice potential "project" that will give you great memories...or a boat you can just drop in the water and have fun!

the new floor looks a bit suspect to me and I would look at the transom, but if you want a project it's as good as any

My answer is NO. Tell the guy that you will get it out of his driveway for 50 bucks. You will have way more than a grand in it before it is ready to hit the water. For that same grand you could start off alot better. Take from a guy who has done the extremly cheap boat thing before.

Purchased 1974 glastron carlson for 250.
Lower unit work I did my self but needed parts 300.00
Interior work to make it usable by the family 125.
New seats never did them cost to much. about 300 for a pair
Other stuff like bildge pumps ect will eat up the money 350 more
Used two seasons and sold it for 250.00

Old boats that are in that said of shape have no value.
Save a couple of grand and buy a boat not so close to the grave.
Sorry but just because something is free doesn't mean it is free.

Have you ever been given a free Puppy? If not I have one I'll send you before you buy the boat.

Think of it this way if the boat was worth 125 dollars he would have sold it to a buddy.

Sorry to drop a hammer on it like that but as my wife would say. "FINE, but the second you go over the budget I get to tell you I TOLD YOU SO every day I walk around it in the driveway"

Good luck with your decision.

If you want a project that won't kill you.....go aluminum. Even if you have to do a complete deck and transom it's not that bad a job. The boat in my signature cost me $200.

Yep I agree with Kyle, looks like a basket case, lots of time and money to get it seaworthy.

If I'm not mistaken, the deck wood is OSB, not something that should be used in a boat. Looks like they slapped the OSB on top of a rotted out floor.

I'm not saying a project is a bad thing. Heck, mine is gutted to the gills right now; deck, interior, wiring, and engine is out :D

But, that one looks to be a LOT of work and $$$, stripped, interior shot, no outboard and controls etc, etc... There has to be a better candidate out there for a rebuild.

the buck and a quarter is for the trailer, the boat is free. if you're looking at it as something to work on in your spare time, see if he'll loan you the trailer to get it home. if you burn out on the idea advertise it like he did.
