Cool, so you found some replacement sparkplug leads huh? Yea, I've bought yards of that stuff, for my projects and previous jobs.

It looks like that motor was painted gold. I think the original colors would be silver with a blue gas tank. At least, that's what I saw on most Evins of that year.

I'll be willing to bet though, if you get gas to it, it'll run. The old evinrudes were quite coopertive.

Thanks for keeping us posted. :D

I've stripped most of the old black paint off down to the bare metal for a repaint. I have soaked and cleaned the carb and will probably fire it up in a day or two.

I ended up buying a cheap set of copper core plug wires in 7mm and using those. I will see if they work. It's tight under the mag plate as this one has an odd way to route the wires.

yea, I put new leads on my Zephyr when I restored it. I used the modernized boot kits for the plugs, just so nothing would arc out or I don't get bit, if I tinker on it, while it's running:D

It's worked out great. I think I'm going to strip it down and repaint it with some correct paint (now that I found some) I'll post some pics of it in a couple days.

Isn't funny how they routed those leads?

Yes post pics. I like the newer style better. Easier to work with. They do need to lay flat and side by side. I tried to tape them together, but they would not lay flat. It's working for now, but for how long I don't know. The mag plate is held on by clips rather than screws, but I guess the flywheel will help hold it down as well. Coils are harder to align as well. I had spark on one cylinder, but not the other. Turns out the coil on that one was not aligned right. Leon where are you at?

Hey freddyray, I'm up in Oregon, but don't worry, I am always here and you're welcome to contact me. Don't worry about the appearance of your motor, a new paint job will fix that. Hell, I have dug motors out of the worst places and brought them back to life. The botom line is: it doesn't pay to go through the trouble to strip them down and make them look good, until you see that they can run right first. :D

If you need pictures. let me know what you need. I'd like to get my motor posted as my avitar though.

I figure if it won't run I will pull the coils and ect and there is a fish restaurant that will by it to hang on the wall. LOL. I think she will run fine though. Good compression, now good spark and a rebuilt carb. What's to go wrong?

Well, I have no doubts that it'll be fine. As far as the lower unit goes, I don't believe you'll have too much trouble getting parts for it. These were somewhat common motors back in the day and some collectors have have stuff for them on the shelf. Strip 'er down and repaint it, it'll look sharp.:D

one step ahead. I have already have had that apart and it looks and turns good. The impellers look good as well. Maybe the fish restaurant will have to wait.

Got the gas line for it today and got it fired up. I am going to have to clean the carb a bit more. It did not want to stay running without pumping the primer, but it would run as long as I did that. I will also be getting a merc float for it as my seal job on the poor cork float is not that good. Pumps water very well.
