been lookiing and looking for a entry-level boat and pretty much have avoided Bayliner and Maxum but this sounds too good to pass on.

"2006 Maxum 1800MX Sport Boat. Almost brand new(used 3 times). 18 feet, Mercruiser 130 hp, bimini top, cover, galvanized trailer with swing tung, 1 1/2 years left on factory warranty. AM/FM CD stereo, depth finder, power steering, 12 volt power port, open bow, swim platform and ladder. Ski tow eye, and locker. Paid $16,000, great deal but must sell. $9900"

Any thoughts out there on a newer Maxum???

Price sounds pretty good. Is this a boat you really want or are you buying on price? Buyers market these days, Cash is king. I would have a dealer I trust check it out after the water test and before I buy. Any way to find out warranty claims from the dealer? Any finance against the boat?

Good luck.

Agree with TD, unless all you ever plan to do is cruise around, look for a 4.3, or bigger.

Re: newer Maxum???

good questions.

yes, i'm shopping on price, like eveyone else. as some on this board know I'm all over the map on what i'm looking at and what i want to pay. i can pay cash up to $10k but wouldn't shy away from something nice at $4k. i want something that can serve me as a fun and fishing boat that goes from lake to bay/sound. let me put it to you this way, i just spent a week in Hatteras fishing off a 18' cc bay fishing boat. for me, it was fine but for my wife it's a little too utilitarian. a fun bowrider though won't work for bay fishing. so, what to do? i look at everything .

I have not seen this particular boat yet - it just got my attention. I'd bet the seller has a rather sizeable loan on it tho - those types of entry level boats new usually are financed out the youknowwhat i'd think.

TD I guess that you're saying this boat is underpowered?

See if you can find a used Stingray 190 or 195fx. Also, Bayliner also has a combo sport and fishing boat. It would be better, in my opinion, to find one with fishing designed in mind, versus trying to fish out of an general open bow like mine.

Thanks. It looks like the bowrider-based fish and skis may not be good bay boats to me. wouldn't be stable on rougher water - not enough freeboard (is this correct? I'm a newbie and learning).

I thought that a boat more like a traditional CC bay fishing boat hull that has some comfort/fun qualities sounded good but apparently there aren't many like that. I looked at a Sea-Pro 180dc dual console that would've fit the bill pretty good but the boat wasn't as nice as I want.
