My bilge pump will not turn on either by the dash switch or by trying to raise the float switch. Is there a breaker that controls the pump? Is this the likely problem?

There should be a fuse right above or below the dash switch. If the fuse is OK you may have to become a contortionist to get at the pump to start troubleshooting.

Chances are the fuse is blown since neither the float switch or the dash switch makes it run. Check the fuse. If it's ok, then there is a main power feed issue. You can also check for power at the pump. If 12V is present then the motor is shot.

Thanks. I re-set the breaker and it is working. I'm a little concerned that it tripped the breaker because if I wasn't cleaning out the bilge, I would never had know. I guess I need to keep an eye on it.

Yes, you should keep an eye on it, but I would not be overly concerned. There could have been debris in the bilge that caused the motor to be locked-up ( before it cleared) or there could have been a mechanical "shock" to the breaker that caused it to trip. I would manually "test" it a few times, and if it works.....consider it OK.
