I just bought a 1973 Glastron Swinger, with a 130hp 4 cylinder engine. The boat ran fine last year, but did not run this year. The prev owner said there was no spark (electrical problem?), in the engine. He did some investingating, but could not find the problem, changed the spark plugs, battery some eletrical testing (sold it to me, leaving for South Carolina). Any help would be appreciated, have not looked for the problem myself yet? I got this boat for a restoration job. A great looking boat, got for $500 :), he ran out of time to fix it.

Thanks,
Matt

Guessing isn't going to help, troublshooting will.
Other that it being a 130 HP 4 cylinder, what is it. OMC, Mercruiser, Volvo, do you have spark, fuel, compression good.?

I used to have a swinger engine......
I smacked it around a few times and told it to stop screwing around........
It left me.

Hmm, lets see, here is what he posted with the boat: 1973 Glastron 17ft open bow with 130/270 Volvo Penta I/O and 1973 Snow easy tilt trailer. ran fine last year no ignition spark this year.

I could try to troubleshoot it, no engine repair exp. , but can learn.

Yeah baby, my 'go go' boat... swingin

Thanks, again

The first thing you need to do is actually find out if you have spark or not. Probably needs a set of points, most likely a full tuneup and knowing how to start a carbed engine that doesn't have a choke. Have you ever run a carbed engine before???? Or are you in the EFI age?
Either way, you need a service manual for your engine and outdrive if you want to do any work on it.

Here is a link to the engines OEM service manual

and one for the outdrive.

I must be getting old, how you ask a guy if he has any tools?

You have any tools?

You will need a good set of wrench's, a good socket set, screwdriver set, pliers, channel locks, feeler gauge.

I can't for 30-40 years live without a vice. I even bought one for the summer home.

Compressor is almost a must have, compressor tools.

Angel grinder, i use mine alot.

Test light, black tape,

Drill, drill bits.

Sandpaper.

You know what you really need, a oldtimer boating dude who died, and buy his entire garage setup.
