I remember reading on a thread about spraying something on the tarp to keep the snow from sticking.

Anyone recall what that was, and would it work for the 'plastic' types ( Vs canvas types)

Actually, a plastic tarp will be better than canvas for shedding snow. The trick is to make the tent as steep as possible. The flatter the tarp is the less likely it will shed snow. Anyway, spray the tarp with silcone spray lubricant. It is available at nearly any farm store, auto parts store, hardware store or home improvement center.

303 Protectant would probably work. It makes everything pretty slick.

pam spray cooking oil on plastic tarp?

Gee,, then every time it warms up, it will smell of fries? :D :p

Maybe cheap furnature polish ( it works for making tailer bunks slippery).

Well, I decided to use 3 saw horses, and a long 2*4 with ropes then a tarp over the whole thing. I just hope we dont get as much snow as last year! (We were 1" from the record for the area.)

Snow. Wow, I laugh when I think about the iboat poster from Maine talk about looking out into his back yard and barely seeing a hump in the snow where he put his boat last fall. I guess if it's that deep nothing will keep the snow off the tarp!

LOL, I spent 5 years in Burrlington Vermont. Beautiful country in the summer and spring, but there is a reason I now live in the southeast..........I truly found out what "cabin fever" was.

pam spray cooking oil on plastic tarp

I use Pam on the front of my truck on long trips, especially the nooks and crannies of my grill. The bugs just hoses off.

you may be able to make it easyer for the smow to slide off the tarp.....but as tip mentioned....its in the angle of the tarp....thats why all alpine houses have wicked steep roofs with alum instead of shingles.......td has a pic of a rig he made for keeping water off his boat....its made outta pvc....and kinda formes a peaked tent over the boat.......

but.....if you get snow like what our warm weather friend was talikng about......you need a seperate heated building :D

Spray a little Florida on the tarp.

Isn't that the place where they get high winds?
Heck, I think I got that with the 60+MPH winds that came through here. Just missing the warm air ( It was blowing from the north, temp dropped like a rock.)

I took silvertips advice, made a tent over it, then the winds came! But it held. Used a green 'farm quality heavy duty tarp" Kids in the area think it looks like a big pickle. I'll put a light inside, then it can be 'The blob!" actually its my human pod, see I'm an alien actually (From Canada). --- I guess you guys are too young to have see "invasion of the body snatchers' to know what I'm talking about
