looking to get the best pitch for this boat in props.

I use it for fishing in the Puget sound in Washington. Looking to get up on plane and be able to travel to fishing areas. Not looking to tow but want to go faster than what my kicker motor will push me along at.

Any suggestions as to what the best pitch may be?

:confused::confused::)

14 x 21 will work fine for you. It has a higher top speed than the 14 x 19.

Your motor should be tuned up, as that 4 cylinder will do the job just great
for what it's designed to do. Keep it in good shape.

Dear rhettw

Have you had a chance to try out the 14 x 21 prop? ... I have the same boat and would like to replace my prop. Currently I have a 14 x 17 but I find my RPM's are up over 5000 at cruising speeds.

Thanks

While a 21" would be at the top end of the prop selections I don't see how we can determine what prop without present specs. If the motor turns out to be a little tired or they haul a lot of people we could end up with a dog.

What is your present max rpm and speed.A 17 would normally be for loads or
skiing and probably would be too high at max throttle but over 5,000 at cruising speeds sounds excesive. Is the prop in excellent condition?
What is your cruising speed? Can't tell anything without rpm and speed.
Your tach may need to be checked.

My boat is actually a 19.5' capri cuddy. I get top speeds of about 38 mph but as mentioned RPM's are up at about 5000. The engine is an AQ125 which I think is 115hp. I do not use it for skiiing ... only to buzz around the waters here in Vancouver. The prop has a couple of small dings in it so to answer your question it is not in good shape. I would like to get speed of about 30 mph with RPM's at 4000-4200. Can I do this through a better prop?

OK it confused when you said 5,000 at cruising speed when you meant wot. It is best to get the prop so rpm is at rated max at wot (wide open throttle).Your max rpm may be on a label on the motor.I'll guess 4,600 but you should find out what actual is.Each inch change in pitch equals "about" 200 rpm.If you go to a 19" pitch it should put you at about 4,600 rpm.wot. probably a little more speed.Hole shot will be slower but if you just cruise shouldn't bother.

Thanks Steelspike

What are your thoughts on putting a left hand rotating prop at 14 x 21 on my single engine boat? The nice thing about my Volvo 270 leg is that I can manually change the gear rotation from right to left from the control box on the leg.

Is there anything to be concerned about in havinga a left rotating prop on a single engine boat? Is 14 x 21 too big ... keeping in mind that I will not be towing or having large payload it the boat (19.5' Capri Cuddy)?

Thanks in advance

Most boats are setup to conteract right hand prop torque. A left hand prop
could introduce a starboard list at speed.
But I think the major problem with the 21 is rpm it could put you at 4,200 with little or no push for even a medium load. Not good for the motor to be lugged. If you have the prop try it out.But I sure wouldn't buy one unless you can return it.
