I recently purchased a Goodyear sea-bee outboard, and i don't know anything about it. The model number is 253572 and the serial number is 512514. Does anyone know what year this is and if there are repair manuals available? Also, does anyone know of a site with information on the Sea-bee? I have looked all over and i can't find anything.

Re: Goodyear Sea-bee info needed

25-3572 (12D11G) is a 12 horsepower motor made by Gale Products Division of OMC. You probably have heard of it's cousins, the Johnson and Evinrude motors? Your 12 shares many, but not all, parts with the 15hp Evinrude.
Fuel mix is 24:1, one pint of TC-W3 outboard oil per 6 gallons of regular unleaded. Don't dare even think about running it on 50:1. That motor has aluminum connecting rods. Lower unit takes 80-90W outboard gear oil.

Unless they have already been changed, expect to find bad (cracked) coils. They are great running motors if in good condition.

There are plenty of people here that can answer your specific questions.
EDIT: It was built in 1954-55

Isn't one pint to 6 gallons 50:1? I think you mean 1 quart.

Turn both clockwise gently, until they stop. Turn high-speed 3/4 to 1 full turn out, slow-speed 1 and 1/2 half turn counterclockwise. That'll get you in the ballpark. Once it's running, throttle up and adjust the high-speed slightly, either way, until it runs well at speed...then idle down and adjust the slow-speed the same way. I generally have to lean my high-speed a little on the boat/water...lean is clockwise, once you get them both set on the boat/water, tighten the nut a little and you probably won't have to mess with it again, unless you just want to.

15hp Evinrude/Johnson manuals of similar years should serve you well.
In my after market manual (bought for $15 on Ebay)the Gale 12 and 15 and E/J 15,18 and 20 are covered in the same chapter.I got a Gale factory manual on Ebay for about $15 covers all motors 51-57.I believe there are factory reprints here at iboats.

Re: Goodyear Sea-bee info needed

does anybody know the value of these motors? i cant find anything on ebay, and even google doesn't produce alot of results. mine is in amazing shape, i was stunned to learn it was a 55 because other than some dust and faded paint it looks brand new, its complete minus the extra gas tank and air cleaner. speaking of air cleaner does anyone know where to get one for it, will an evinrude of the same era work?

Re: Goodyear Sea-bee info needed

The cutaway drawing of the 12D11 in my Gale manual doesn't show a a carb silencer. There isn't an air cleaner on most outboards.Value varies greatly depending on condition, running and comeplete. Ebay is a pretty good way to get an idea.I paid $100 for a 55 5D11 in very good very sound non running condition. It may take some time to stumble on a 12D11 on Ebay.
But thats one way.The guys at aomci are pretty closed mouth about value.

Re: Goodyear Sea-bee info needed

All of those OMC carbs from 10 through 18hp used the same basic carburetors as far as kits go. The differences were minor and as long as you select one with two adjustable needle valves you will be OK.

The float is part number 396514 and is made of the modern alcohol-proof material. If you buy an OEM kit from an Evinrude dealer it will include a new float.

EDIT: That is the trouble with making a blanket statement. I should have included a range of years in there. Try to stay somewhere near your year model.
