Bedliner as a Marine coating

I have read and heard of many folks using truck bedliner as a coating in different marine applications. Recently I spoke to a person who built his business doing steel boat bottoms. He said that he uses bedliner coating as a final finish after repairing, or "skinning", steel bottom house boats for fresh water. I have read here in the forums of several people using bedliner as a coating as well. Is bedliner a good choice as a marine coating?

interior coating yes, i have seen it on the outside, but they said it caused a lot of drag.
