Does any anyone have instructions on how to replace the impeller on a 1991 mercruiser gen II? If so I would really like to get detailed instructions on how to remove the lower gear case. The serial no# is OD582279
Thanks

Re: Impeller Replacement

If you decide to pull just the lower leg, when reassembling, I put the water tube (shown here in the lower) in the upper half of the drive and then used the white PVC piece (around the water tube) in the bottom half and used as a guide... It took me a couple of time trying to get it back together before I figured that out...

Re: Impeller Replacement

Thanks Don and Dshow, I appreciate the information. Question do I need to put the boat in full foward gear? I read that somewhere, but I dont think I saw that procedure in the manual

Re: Impeller Replacement

You need to put the boats helm control in forward gear if you are removing the drive. That keeps the shift shaft in the drive and bellhousing facing straight forward so they will come apart.
If you are just removing the lower unit, it makes it easier to install, but not necessary.
The manual doesn't show how to put the lower on the upper while still on the boat, so they wouldn't have a reason to say fwd or neutral or reverse. All will work.
