Hi, I?m new here and have a couple questions about my 1984 75 hp Evinrude. (electric start) Last year it started showing dry carbon deposits high on the transom side of the lower unit. I didn?t think too awful much of it, figuring it?s just age. I use it for Saturday morning fishing/trolling about 15 trips per year on Lake Ontario. Usually I cruise a couple miles then troll for 5 or 6 hours, then cruise back to the launch. Every hour or so, I put her in neutral & rev it up to blow the smoke out of it. Seems to run fine.
Anyways, last weekend, I put her up for the winter. I squirted WD40 in all three cylinders then turned the flywheel over with the flywheel rope, then squirted them again. I just looked at it this morning and saw an oily wet spot on that area.
Any idea what?s causing this?
I also pulled the cover off and saw quite a few ?splotches? of black crud on the inside of the lower cover/cowling. I know they weren?t there in early June when I installed a new rectifier & stator.
Any idea where these came from?
Thanx,
