Ok, I am prepared to be called stupid, so go ahead?.but, here is the question anyway!
I have a new Mercury 60HP Four Stroke EFI and I want to do the routine maintenance (oil and lube, etc.) myself. I have gone to the Mercury Parts Express web site to look for correct part numbers, specs, etc., and they allow you to ?register? your engine so that lists of parts and products are shown for a particular engine.
I see listed a ?Pump, Crankcase oil? (part 802889Q1 or 90265A5 depending on engine) and I cannot see where this item would be necessary on an ?outboard? engine where both the crankcase drain and filler are exposed. Also, the oil change procedures shown in the manual do not show or talk about the ?pump?.
Am I correct in assuming that the pump would only be required if the boat was ?in the water? and I wanted to do the oil change without tilting the motor ?up?, thus pumping the oil out the dipstick tube?
If there are other issues that require the use of the pump to pull the oil out the dipstick tube, please advise.
Thanks,
?Dipstick? Dave
