I just completed a power head rebuild on a 70hp Evinrude which threw a rod cap. My manual doesn't cover the recommedations for a break-in period, i.e. oil/gas mixture and time frame at specified rpm's. I have some information on the net concerning these items, but I could sure use an expert opionion on this one. Also, I have seen recommendations stating that the water pump should be changed when the power head is rebuilt. Any opions on this? Thanks for the help.

although there is no real rules about break in, it seems that double Oil for a tank, plus no prolonged full throttle is the preferred method, Water pump probably should be replaced as well, just so it is all as good as it can be

The procedure is the same IF the rebuilder used the same clearances as the factory did. In any case you should follow the recommendations of the machinist or assembler. Who ever supplies the warranty is who determins how it gets broke-in so it won't become broken.

A new water pump and carb cleaning is standard procedure for any rebuild.
