need pics of 66 evinrude 18 hrs carb (Help?)

I have a 1966 Evinrude 18 horse.I was told that it runs great but I cannot get it to run.Checking it out It looks like there mite be a carb part missing. Can someone please send a couple of pics. Thanks for your time.

BRP has a parts list for their motors dating back to 1968 at http://tinyurl.com/5fjt7o
I believe the motors and carbs were the same between the 1966 and 1968 model. Hopefully someone else can verify this, but it would be a good place to start.

How is this? I took this picture prior to starting the re-build so that I knew what when where when it came time to put it back together. I hope this is the view you need, as it is the only one I have.

By the way, this is off a Johnson 18HP, 1959 model.

First of all, welcome to the iboats forum.

What makes you think something is missing? Can you post a pic for us? There are several things that it needs to have to run. Have you checked compression and spark? Has the ignition system been updated as if not it will need to be. If this is a new to you engine then you really should check the compression so that you know what it is and that you have it for a baseline.

There is a previous thread on this forum entitled 'Awakening a Sleeping Outboard'. I would recommend you search for it and then start doing some of the tests listed on it.

I also have a '66 E18 that runs excellent.

Here is what I have! I thought their was something missing because the arm sticking strait up has no were to go.And the bottom left of photo has missing screws bolts or somthing!If I take the sparkplugs out and add a little gas it will run, but it wont stay running.I have replaced all fuel lines and have fuel going into the carb.I have taken the carb apart to check the float it seems to be working.I do not know anything about the knobs and where they should be.And the throttle should it be wide open, half way or all the way off?
