The starter markings include L1,1,2,3,4,5, and L2. 2 and L2 appear to be the same post.

There is a blue wire going to L1 and then to 3.
Yellow wire to L2 & 2
orange to 3

I need to wire Black, red, orange, white and green wires from a Furnas Reversing drum switch to this motor.

Thanks.

Is it really off of a davit?

I won't guess at the wiring on this one cause you can cause the cap to explode.

Usually there is a wiring diagram on the spec tag that will denote where things go. If not, manufacture, model, frame, voltage, and phase info will be needed.

We are wired for 110 Volts.

I have my thoughts on how it should be, but with you hooking it up to a reversing switch,,,,,,,,I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction. My suggestion is find a motor shop and take it to them. Its been a real long time since I've seen a Westinghouse motor. Sorry I can't help you,,,maybe someone else will shed some more light for you.....Good Luck.....SS

Re: How do I wire this electric davit motor?

I ended up using all the original wires from the switch to the motor. Orange wasn't one of them. The green wire bypassed the switch and was wired directly through the switch. The outlet cord was wired as per directions.

The results? The motor would huim but not turn the motor unless the pulley was spun by hand and even then it moved too slow.

I hooked up the way it was originally and it worked again. This is the motor that is still on the davit. Sometimes it needs help by spinning the pulley. I just wanted to try the new switch.

It sounds as if the starting capacitor is weak or bad. You may want to have it checked. It is located under that Twinkie shaped cover on top of your motor.

Re: How do I wire this electric davit motor?

This time I tried using all 5 wires in the other Leeson 1/2hp motor. The colors were the same yet the davit would only go down and not up. I tired the other Furnas switch and differant capacitors with the same result. The old switch has SA on it.

There is continuity between 1&2 and 1&4 if that means anything.
