Boat Guide Project - Who made their own?

I realize that the Bayliner will much harder to handle with the hard top on when there is wind. Just having the factory Navy top up made a big difference loading the trailer. So I decided to get some Boat Guides on the trailer before taking the boat out with the hard top on it.

I looked at all different types of boat guides, simple PVC pipe guide, metal guide with roller, metal guide with bunk board, and others. One website has customer reviews and a big complaint was that the metal bases on the PVC guides bent, and the all PCV guides were very flexable.

After checking out my trailer for a while, I decided to make a PVC guide with two pipes supporting a 20" bunk on each side. I had some 2" PVC pipe already, so it was just a matter of buying the right elbows. For U bolts lengths of threaded rod are going to be used and bent to shape then painted with cold galvanize spray.

Today I got all the pieces together, but don't have time to start just yet. Probably this week, after I finish some other obligation I have.

Anyway, just wondering who made their own guides and what style they made.

Mark i just did some for my toon. they are strong, 2200 lb boat. 2 inch pvc, went to the muffler shop and bought some 2 inch hangers, then some all thread, nuts washers, and flat plate. went on really easy. they are so long, because we have a steep ramp, when unloading and loading i only have about 12 inches of the stern guide on above water.

Do not comment on my rusty trailer, it is a future project.

On my fiberglass boat i adjusted them to give me an inch on each side.

Nice job on the toon trailer TD...I'm sure those make a huge difference loading..;)

I made mine for a pontoon boat, but instead of on the outside they are on the inside. I made a set with two metal post of square tubing and attached a 2x4 board between them on each side.

I made mine from square tubbing, threaded rod with simplicity lawn mower rollers that come on mower decks. welded it all together. leave them 1'' away per side.

Mike, my trailer has the inside guide, but the ramp is so steep, they never hit the boat. i had to go higher. and the ramp usually has a cross wind.

Tahs, thanks for posting those pictures. The use of exhaust clamp on my setup will solve a clearance issue I have. Thats what I like about this site, you get good ideas from other peoples projects!
