I realize that the Bayliner will much harder to handle with the hard top on when there is wind. Just having the factory Navy top up made a big difference loading the trailer. So I decided to get some Boat Guides on the trailer before taking the boat out with the hard top on it.
I looked at all different types of boat guides, simple PVC pipe guide, metal guide with roller, metal guide with bunk board, and others. One website has customer reviews and a big complaint was that the metal bases on the PVC guides bent, and the all PCV guides were very flexable.
After checking out my trailer for a while, I decided to make a PVC guide with two pipes supporting a 20" bunk on each side. I had some 2" PVC pipe already, so it was just a matter of buying the right elbows. For U bolts lengths of threaded rod are going to be used and bent to shape then painted with cold galvanize spray.
Today I got all the pieces together, but don't have time to start just yet. Probably this week, after I finish some other obligation I have.
Anyway, just wondering who made their own guides and what style they made.
